Interesting facts about me

I'm 62, recently retired (Aug 1, 2009). I live in a retirement golf community in central Florida. Enjoy golf of course (no pun intended) image, walking for exercise and fitness, bike riding, and using my computer (without Microsoft Windows).
Also, I really enjoy reading about and sharing walking experiences with this group.

Happy retirement, I have been retired a couple of years now and just love it. I don't know how I got on with working all my life. Cherille

    Thanks a bunch!
Tomorrow is the BIG day. At work, they have been trying to get all they can out of me for the past 4 1/2 months. My time will be my own very soon, and I'm ready. I miss my walking, and just haven't had time for it. I expect to work my way back up to 8 miles every other day.
Thanks again for the well wishes.
    See ya,
    Bob

Hi Bob, I really enjoy walking, especially longer races. Although I don't think I am at all competitive, it turns out that in our age group and older, we sometimes actually do quite well. After all, who cares if there may be only 2 or 3 entrees in our category. That sure does make me proud and I gather all the medals, certificates, and awards and show them off. I never thought I would ever consider myself an "athlete" !!!

I am married with 2 grown sons - the oldest you saw with me in Tall. He is not a serious runner or walker so he does the race really just to humor me - and I do it for some bonding time with him. My husband doesn't run or walk at all, although I try very hard to get him to do so. But he often comes with me to races, especially if they are at a destination he wants to visit, and he meets me at the finish line and cheers me on. So I am happy about that.

Thanks a bunch Kim. I really do have to give the young lady I walked with after the turn around the credit, otherwise I could easily have added 3-5 minutes to my time.

    Hi Bob,
Just catching up on my e-mails! On rare occasions I walk before work but usually after dinner. I am lucky that I am a full time employee but have a 4 day work week Fridays I can walk in the morning. My long walks are on Sunday mornings. The heat is an issue with me so I seldom walk any long distance during the summer unless it is very early in the day.

You should check out the Space Coast Marathon in November. Mellody, Jean-Maria, Karen, Ginger and I are racing. Mellody is doing the full marathon, the rest of us the half. It will be my first half marathon! Sounds like a fun event with lots of support.

    Hi Barb,
I don't think I'm ready for a half marathon yet. I may be able to do it, but I have a habit of pushing myself beyond the flat worn out point. I walked in a Lakeland runners club 5k up and down some serious hills. I pushed myself to the point it took me an hour to get myself back to normal. I have resigned myself to fitness walking and if I find an event that works for me I may give it a try.
I kind'a like walking in the heat. I set my pace and adjust it to how I feel.
Great hearing from you. Keep me posted on walking events you participate in.
    See ya,
    Bob
PS. My wife and I are spending Thurs-Sun on the beach in New Smyrna Beach. Hoping for some nice weather.
